Composed for the 2013 Budapest National Fireworks, this powerful suite blends classical tradition, Hungarian folk heritage, world music, and the raw energy of rock.
The work features contributions from the Dohnányi Symphony Orchestra, the Academic Choral Society, and iconic Hungarian artists including Balázs Szokolay “Dongó”, Edina “Mókus” Szirtes, Judit Andrejszki, and students of the Liszt Academy’s folk music department. Orchestrations were created by renowned arranger Péter Pejtsik.
A recurring theme is the ancient folk hymn “Oh, Saint Stephen, be praised”, honoring Hungary’s founding king. The suite also reimagines traditional songs like “Spring Wind” and “I Am Leaving” in bold, unconventional ways.
A highlight includes a symphonic setting of the Renaissance prayer “To Mars for Peace” by humanist bishop Janus Pannonius. The finale, Golden Brush, pays tribute to painter Mihály Munkácsy, capturing the eternal flame of artistic inspiration.
Fireworks Suite is a sweeping musical journey — from ancient to modern, from quiet introspection to explosive passion — celebrating the full spectrum of the human experience.
